Legendary NFL football handicapper, J. R. Miller started his gambling career with a 0-15 run. Sources say he has advised prospective gamblers that losing is a part of betting. He has not changed his philosophy one iota.
Today, Miller enjoys the status of one of the top handicappers of NFL games. He gets an astonishing 60 percent of his picks right. He is the author of “How Professional Gamblers Beat the Pro Football Pointspread” that reportedly is the only gambling book ever recommended for library acquisition lists by library officials.
Could it be that Miller’s experience as a professional writer early in his life contributed to his success as an author of betting books? He wrote for television in the 1970s. That’s where he learned that it didn’t hurt to have movie star looks when it came to meeting the good looking women. He has also written pilot episodes and sit-coms for cable, as well as writing for gambling shows. He is the author of five books.
There are documented instances when Miller picked a winner for every NFL game played on a single weekend, and he has done it more than once. For serious gamblers, Miller has some advice. He says to forget percentages and focus on profits. Bet the same amount of money on underdogs as favorites.
