Rufus Jones, of Castle Shannon, near Pittsburgh, will become Emporium's new chief of police this Monday, May 1.
For 11 years, he was a police officer at Pittsburgh Police Department.
Jones worked as a mail carrier before taking this job.
No major changes will occur to the local police force-- yet. He will first have to get the feel for the area, people and the department.
"I have no idea what, if any changes, I would make to the department," he said. "I will need to work there for a while before I make any kind of decisions."
For the Pittsburgh police department, Jones, 47, served as a plain clothes detective, internal affairs detective and a mounted patrol officer.
"I chose Emporium because of the community and the people," said Jones. "It really looks like a nice place to live."
