The Department of Environmental Protection reports that a a neutralization system along the Sinnemahoning and Portage Creek has got the water's pH levels back to normal. Nortfolk Southern has been using a citric acid solution at the site of a train derailment and sodium hydroxide spill to reduce the alkalinity. As of late last week, the railroad removed 1150 tons of spilled cargo from the spill site.
