EMPORIUM - Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) today presented two
grants totaling $10,000 to the Cameron County Historical Society and the
Cameron County Little League.
Causer helped obtain the grants of $5,000 for each organization.
"Both the Cameron County Historical Society and the Little League
play valuable roles in our community," Causer said. "Cameron County has
a rich history that lives on through the programs and services provided
by the historical society, and both children and their families are
well-served by the fun and learning opportunities provided by the Little
League."
The grant to the Historical Society will be used toward the
purchase of a high-tech microfilm reader/printer/scanner to help make
more of the society's collections readily available to the public. The
new machine is part of a larger effort by the Historical Society to
offer a state-of-the-art research library that will serve as a
historical and educational resource for the Cameron County community.
The grant to the Little League will be used toward renovation of
the Little Girls Softball Field. Specifically, the organization is
working to replace the dugout, repair the infield and add a fence, all
of which will improve the safety of the children using the field.
"I am very pleased to see the state making this investment in the
Historical Society and the Little League because these groups do great
work in our county," Causer said. "I especially want to thank and praise
all of the volunteers who have given and will give so much toward making
these projects a reality."
The grants were awarded through the state's Department of
Community and Economic Development.
