HARRISBURG - Rep. Martin T. Causer (R-Turtlepoint) would like to inform residents that the application deadline to file for the 2005 Property Tax/Rent Rebate has been extended from June 30 to Dec. 31. By extending the deadline, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue expects an additional 36,000 applicants to apply for the rebate program.
Eligible participants can receive a rebate of up to $500 based on their rent or property taxes paid in 2005. The 2004 Pennsylvania Department of Revenue Property Tax/Rent Rebate report shows that more than 321,000 claims were paid for that year.
The program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians who are 65 years or older, widows and widowers 50 years or older, and those 18 years or older with disabilities.
The household eligibility income limit is $15,000, excluding 50 percent of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, and Railroad Retirement Tier 1 benefits.
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is one of four programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery, which dedicates its proceeds to support programs for older Pennsylvanians. Since the program began in 1971, more than $3.21 billion has been paid to qualified applicants.
Residents are reminded to provide all the necessary income, property tax or rental information required to process claims quickly and accurately.
Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms are available by contacting Causer's office at (814) 362-4400 or by visiting the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue Web site at www.revenue.state.pa.us.
State Troopers say that 21 year old Chasity Marsh of Lanniger Creek Road was in a crash oon June 16. According to the police report, Marsh was traveling north on Lanniger Creek road when she struck a fence. Her and a child recieved minor injuries, and were taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital.
A camp along Weimer Hollow near Sartwell Creek was broken into sometime between May 21 and June 6.
According to State Troopers, Jack Reeder of Slippery Rock reported anout 220 dollars worth of items missing from the camp. Anyone with info is asked to call the Coudersport State Police Barracks at 814-274-8690.
State Police say Christopher Bryant of Whitesville fell asleep at the wheel and struck a tree stump June 18. According to the report, his Chevy Cavalier went down a ten foot embankmnet. He had to be extracted from the vehicle, and taken to Charles Cole. Moderate Head trauma necessitated that he be flown to Erie for observation. Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
A 15 year old is under investigation after a 15 year old Roulette girl received a harassing message from him on myspace.com last Sunday. State Police are looking into the case.
John Rigas attorney appeared in court last week, asking for charges against him to be thrown out. Rigas lawyers say the terms used by the accountants that testified were not properly explained to the jury. John Rigas was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and his son was sentenced to serve 20 years. They are out, pending an appeal of their case.
A hit and run in Roulette occurred last week. State Police report that 21 year old David Darush went off the road and struck three mailboxes. Police say Darush fled the scene. Charges are pending.
State police are looking into a theft of services in Bingham Township. Officers say that someone plugged in an electrical cord into an outlet belonging to Karen Marshall of Lock Haven.
Apparently, parents in Ulysses arent quite sure how to handle situations like the following. State Police were called to a playground. According to the police log, a 4 year old struck a 13 year old. Editors Note: I have a four year old. I can see absolutely NO reason why this would warrant a call to the police.
A Galeton man will not be charged after an incident last week at Toms Deer Processing. According to State Troopers, Joe Lancaster, 37, showed up and started loading up wood. Apparently the incident was the result of a miscommunication.
Lyman Run State Park manager Chip Harrison says plans are progressing at the Lyman Run Dam. He spoke to the Potter County Visitors Association last week, and said that weather permitting, the cleanup is expected in September. After that, the lake will start to be filled up in October. The lake was drained several years ago when the earthen dam was deemed unsafe.
The Potter County Commissioners met Thursday. The trio approved a grant agreement between the County and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency for the Citizen Corps Program Activities.
Dr. Robert Wagner was approved a contract as the on site doctor at the county jail.
Sara Gamble was hired as a Sumemr intern in the planning office.
23 year old Kevin Lunn of Coudersport was sentenced in McKean County Court for Aggravated Indecent Assault Charges. Lunn will serve 2-1/2 to 5 years in prison for numerous sex charges involving a girl under 13 years old in Bradford. When Lunn is released from prison, he'll have to register as a Megan's Law offender for 10 years.
Potter and Cameron Men involved in Elk County Crash
An Austin Man and an Emporium man were both involved in a crash in Elk County. According to a report from State Troopers in Ridgeway. 45 year old Austin Man, Michael Majot was traveling south in his 1988 Lincoln when he ran into a 2003 Ford driven by 72 year old Norman Reed.
State Police have busted four individuals and charged them with burglary.
Ryan Hibshman, Joshua Bloom, Daniel Foster, and Jonathan Proctor are all accused of breaking into the Ox Yoke Restaurant, Connie's Market in Ulysses, the Ulysses American Legion, and 23 Poplar Avenue in Galeton, all between May 27 and June 6.
The quartet faces numerous charges, including drug offenses.
State Police say 42 year old John Smith of Austin was driving a 98 Kenworth truck on Route 155 in Keating Township when he lost control, and flipped the truck onto it's side. Austin Ambulance and Fire responded. No injureies were reported.
State Police report that on May 28, 21 year old Raphael Eckert of Gordon Lane was pulled over on Reed Run Road, and determined to be Driving Under the influence.
State Police are investigating an incident in West Branch Township.
According to a report, Edwin Knecht Jr. says that someone used his John Deere Dozer to grade a 200 yard section of road leading to the Montg Potter Recreation Association. No damage was caused to the dozer, but the parties apparently did not ask for Knecht's permission before using it.
State Police report that a property on Ellis Hollow Road is missing some lawn decorations.
Police report that James Brossman reported an antique farm bell worth 200 dollars, a jockey lantern statue, and a solar light were all taken from his camp sometime between May 14 and May 27.
