WFRM reports: It’s been just over two weeks since the Time Warner Call Center closed in Coudersport, eliminating about 500 jobs, and today there’s the glimmer of light on the horizon with the confirmation by AP Wagner that it will be opening a call center here within the next few weeks. In an exclusive interview, company president Mike Magnan told WFRM that initially 25 people will be hired, but he’s hopeful the number will grow over the next few months. Magnan says he believes all of the initial hires will be former Time Warner employees, adding interviews should be finished within the next couple of weeks; training should be completed by the third week of March and the center will be fully operational by the first of May, the beginning of the company’s busy season. The center will be located in the former Job Center office, next to the Ag offices in the Industrial Park. Magnan says the jobs are currently filled in a foreign country. AP Wagner is an appliance parts distributor based in Buffalo which began operations in 1928. It call centers respond to consumers who have questions or problems with their appliances. Magnan told WFRM that the main reason for locating here is the workforce. Community leaders are optimistic AP Wagner will be the first of several companies locating here. In fact, Doug Morley, chairman of the Potter County Redevelopment Authority told members of the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce today, there are three or four viable companies who are in serious negotiations with the various government entities which can facilitate a move here. In fact, Morley said, the authority found, primarily because of the trained work force and its work ethic, “we’re in the catbird seat. Companies are coming to us, not the other way around.”from wfrm.net
